• Chlamydia
  Chlamydia is a bacterial infection which affects the cervix in women and the urethra in men. Chlamydia is the most common STI and it is quite often the case than no outward symptoms are present to indicate that anything is wrong. Left untreated however, Chlamydia can cause very unwelcome complications.

• Gonorrhoea
  Gonorrhoea is the most common STI after Chlamydia and in the case of infections in men it is normally accompanied by a discharge from the urethra. Most men will display symptoms within 3 to 5 days of infection.

• Herpes
  There are Herpes Simplex 1 and Herpes Simplex 2. Both infections can be passed by skin to skin contact.

• Syphilis
  Syphilis is a bacterial infection passed through sexual contact. We have a blood test for syphilis or a swab that can be used to collect cells from a suspicious lesion.

• Mycoplasma Genitalium
  This is a small parasitic bacterium which can be transmitted between sexual partners during unprotected sex. This infection can be treated with antibiotics.

• Trichomonas Vaginalis
  This is a parasitic infection which can cause vaginal discharge, vulvar itching and swelling. Around 50% of women who are infected show no outward symptoms. If untreated, it can lead to urethritis and cystitis.

• Bacterial Vaginosis
  This infection is the most common cause of vaginitis and is characterised by a vaginal discharge and an overgrowth of a bacteria in the vagina known as Gardnerella vaginalis.

• Ureaplasma
  Ureaplasma Urealyticum and Ureaplasma Parvum are bacteria that can be passed through sexual contact although it is not a classic STI or STD.

• Non-specific Urethritis (NSU)
  Non-specific urethritis is an inflammation of the urethra: the tube that runs from the bladder and carries the urine out of the body.

• HIV
  HIV is a virus that attacks the immune system. There are some excellent treatments but early diagnosis is important for achieving the best clinical outcome. We have a test that provides results in 4 hours.

• Hepatitis B
  Hepatitis B is a virus that affects the liver. Most infected people manage to clear the virus from their body naturally.

• Hepatitis C
  Hepatitis C is a virus that affects the liver and most people are infected for life. Hepatitis C does not always produce immediate symptoms to indicate that anything is wrong.

• Urine Chemistry
  We can perform a standard urine chemistry if you have symptoms of a urinary tract infection but Sexually Transmitted Infections are not relevant. The urine chemistry includes a culture with antibiotic sensitivities. Do not use this test in place of our STI tests as it will be unable to detect these infections.

• HPV
  HPV stands for Human Papilloma Virus. Certain types of HPV virus are high risk and can cause certain types of cancers. Some low risk HPVs are responsible for genital warts.
